Pakistan Joins Arab and Muslim Nations in Backing Hamas Response to Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

Pakistan, alongside seven Arab and Muslim nations, has formally welcomed Hamas’s response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recently unveiled Gaza peace plan. The joint declaration, described as a “real opportunity” for peace, underscores a growing regional alignment in support of a negotiated end to the devastating conflict that has gripped Gaza since October 2023.
In a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Türkiye, Qatar, and Pakistan expressed their collective backing for Hamas’s announcement. The group praised Hamas’s willingness to engage with Trump’s 20-point plan, which includes an immediate ceasefire, phased Israeli withdrawal, the release of hostages, Hamas disarmament, and a reconstruction framework for Gaza under international oversight.
Call for Swift Implementation
The joint statement emphasized the urgency of turning proposals into action. It noted the ministers’ commitment to supporting negotiations for a ceasefire and ensuring the “unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid” to Gaza, where conditions have reached catastrophic levels after nearly two years of war.
The ministers also welcomed Hamas’s readiness to transfer Gaza’s governance to an independent Palestinian technocratic authority. Such a transitional arrangement, they argued, could pave the way for unified Palestinian leadership over both Gaza and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority, strengthening the prospects for long-term stability.
Recognition of Trump’s Role
In an unusual gesture, the statement praised President Trump for what it called his “commitment to establishing peace in the region.” Trump’s plan, announced on September 29, has drawn mixed global reactions but is now seen by several Arab and Muslim nations as a viable framework for ending hostilities. His call for Israel to halt bombing campaigns and begin implementing a prisoner exchange deal was singled out as a positive step toward de-escalation.
Humanitarian Focus
Beyond political considerations, the statement underscored the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. It called for urgent action to prevent further displacement of Palestinians, guarantee civilian protection, and enable international relief agencies to operate freely.
Hamas, in its written response on Friday, confirmed its agreement to release “all occupation war prisoners, both living and dead,” under the exchange mechanism proposed by Trump. The group further committed to handing administrative control of Gaza to a consensus-based, independent Palestinian body backed by Arab and Islamic nations.
A Possible Turning Point
Analysts note that while significant obstacles remain—including Israeli acceptance of the plan—the joint position of Pakistan and influential Arab states signals a rare moment of alignment. Regional observers believe this unity could add pressure on international actors to prioritize diplomacy over military escalation.
For now, the statement reflects cautious optimism: a recognition that after years of bloodshed, political fragmentation, and humanitarian crises, the path toward a ceasefire may finally have gained momentum.
