At least 49 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed overnight as Israeli warplanes pounded residential neighborhoods across Gaza, according to health officials. The strikes hit densely populated areas already devastated by months of bombardment, leaving families trapped under rubble and hospitals struggling to cope with the influx of casualties.
The latest attack brings Gaza’s death toll to more than 66,000 since the war began in 2023. Humanitarian groups warn that hunger and medical shortages are pushing the territory’s 2.3 million residents closer to collapse.
In a separate development, Israeli naval forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters on Thursday. The flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid, journalists, and international activists, was headed toward Gaza to deliver food and medical supplies. Hundreds on board were detained, sparking condemnation from rights organizations and fueling accusations that Israel is deepening the humanitarian crisis.
Video footage circulated online showed heavily armed Israeli commandos boarding the vessels. Organizers said the flotilla carried more than 5,000 tons of essential supplies intended for civilians facing starvation under Israel’s blockade.
International reactions were swift. Human rights groups denounced both the airstrikes and the flotilla seizure as violations of international law. Several governments called for restraint, while protests erupted in multiple capitals demanding an end to the war.
Despite mounting pressure, Israel’s leadership has vowed to continue operations until Hamas is “completely dismantled.” Meanwhile, Hamas officials described the flotilla’s interception as “an act of piracy” and accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilians to break resistance in Gaza.
As the conflict enters another deadly phase, analysts warn that the international community faces growing urgency to act. Calls for a ceasefire and accountability are rising, but with no agreement in sight, Gaza’s civilian population continues to bear the heaviest cost.
